Collin,
I have helped several foreigners buy vans and drive around the US. Send me more information in a PM
and I will help if I can.

Hi Collin,

Do you think you'll want to visit a certain area of the US or are you thinking all over? If you stick to one area, you could get around via bus (Greyhound), car or train. Bus would be the cheapest...and slowest. Depending on the cost of gas, the car and train would probably be pretty close in price. FYI, traveling by train is not very common in the US (or at least on the West Coast). I cannot imagine it runs as often as in Europe.

If I were you, I'd probably rent a car. This way you have control of where you go and how long you stay. You could find yourself sticking to one area or driving cross country... And, if need be, you could sleep in your car or take it to pull-in camp sites as well.

If, however, you are set on seeing both coasts, then flying might make more sense in terms of price/time. Checkout Southwest Airlines (www.southwest.com) for cheap flights to most cities.

And if you find yourself wanting to see Oregon (which I highly recommend), let me know and I'll help you with that portion of your trip.

Happy Traveling!!
