i've left it extremely late but decided im movin to Oz in November from Scotland.
been lookin around and only just realised how busy hostels etc are over christmas & new year..
anyone know of anything at all likely to still be available or am i gonna have to move outside sydney to get a decent hostel?
nearer the time will places pop up as people cancel or is this rare?
perhaps when i meet other backpackers, sharing an apartment would be an option which would sounds alot easier!
It's very difficult in Sydney around New Years. Do you have your heart set on Sydney for that period? Because going somewhere else until after the New Year would definitely be the easiest option!
I think you will struggle to find anything now. I spent Christmas and New year 2004 in Sydney and I booked in July; even then most places were full.
If you are looking to rent an apartment this is probably your best option if you do have your heart set on Sydney.
somehow managed to get into Surfside Bondi lastnight.
was positive it'd be full but they've confirmed iv got a bed for the 12 nights!
reading reviews it seems its quite a dirty hostel but the most sociable n that so quite looking forward to it.
edit- anyone been?

Sydney is tough during the end of the year. Try raystay.com - search for sydney, australia there are a couple of good listings.

A few (5-7) of my friends and myself will be landing in Sydney to work in Januray. I was wondering if anyone know of any sites that we can go to, or know of a good place to rent? We wold probably split into 2 groups.
Thanks fo yoru help in advance!
hi you will most probably be able to find something for this period because people book stuff and cancel but you need to be lucky and to try and get to know people at a hostel thats at least what we did we were very nearly homeless bet didnt give up good luck
I was in Sydney for christmas last year, and i had to go up and see if they had any cancellations. The staff got used to me coming up everyday asking, so much they gave me a job. I was lucky, but on NYE no one goes to bed anyway. When i got back from Coogee beach in the morning, me and some friends watched the sun rise on the beach. There was lots of people in the railway Sqaure hostel, just sleeping on the sofa's. So dont worry to much about sleeping new year, i let friends leave their backpacks in my room, if they didnt have one. or sleep on the beach, loads of friends of mine did it.
