hi im planning on doing some travelling next year in july and my original plan was to go to south east asia and australia. unfortunately to due financial circumstances, i have to cut australia out of my trip. so i was planning to add hong kong to my trip. so what im asking for is general advice and info on this. such as is it possable? is it easy to do? how much roughly will it cost? and i guess any other information that may be useful to me. also my whole journey will be from hong kong to bali and then from bali to singapore and home, so literally any info will be most grateful

thanks guys

I don't understand some of your post. Are you saying that you will book a flight from your country to Hong Kong, stay there a while and from there go to Bangkok and/or Bali and return to Hong Kong?

I have had continuing flights that passed through Hong Kong to Bangkok and I have had flights that ended in Hong Kong and from there flew to Bangkok on different airlines. I used China Airlines for the continuing flight. Cathay and once Emirates from Hong Kong for a short connecting flight to BKK.

But, when I did visit Hong Kong it was from Bangkok to HK and back to Bangkok. In Bangkok it is easy to get flights to other countries pretty cheap. There are lots of travel agencies who post their prices on their windows or doors even. I was able to twice get a flight and a discount hotel in Hong Kong when the days did not involve a weekend or Friday.

Hong Kong is more expensive than Bangkok. You can find luxury hotels at the same price in both places but in Bangkok, and Thailand in general, you will also find many hotels at much lower prices that include air, hot water, security box, private toilet and maid service.

From Bangkok you can also fly to Singapore pretty cheap - or through a series of trains and buses visit that place if you want to take the time. From Thailand you can also easily visit Laos and Cambodia or Malaysia too! Singapore is more expensive than Bangkok too - closer to Hong Kong in pricing.

So, you can book from (?) to Hong Kong and fly from there to other places or book clear through to Bangkok and book flights there to Singapore or Hong Kong. It is possible to book a flight that has a normal connecting flight in Hong Kong and get a layover and then continue the flight on to either Bali or Bangkok. Check with your airline to see how much extra a layover will cost you.

Run the prices on the internet airline web pages. I usually use NWA all the way to Asia now and collect a lot of miles for free flights later on. If you need hotel recommendations mention how much you want to spend per night to narrow down any recommendations. How many days are you allowing for holiday? If your time is short you might not want to spend a lot of time in airports and use the time to see the countries you fly to. You might have plenty of time, I don't know - you don't give any info on how long your holiday is.

You will enjoy your trip to Asia, sorry you could not also include Oz.

hey karazyal - im sorry if i wasnt clear. i think i confused myself a bit when i just read the post back to myself. i plan to do is fly from london to hong kong and then travel either by bus or train to vietnam across the border. then continue to travel by any mode of transport around all the surrounding countries like camobia and laos and thailand, all the way down to bali or east timor and then fly to singapore to catch a flight back to the london. i have spoe to a few people about this trip since my first post and some say its easy and other say that it isnt. also since i have been planning this trip (which was last night) i also decided that maybe i would like to go see the great wall of china near beijing so i was thinking of extending my trip to bejing to bali instead of hong kong to bali. which i hope will not be much harder as its just and extra train journey added to my trip. also i will be planning to go for around 4-6 months

about the hotels that u can recommend im going to be possibly travelling with a frien who will not have as much money as i will so we will be looking for hotels or hostels that are cheap and fairly clean. i mean all we will need our room for is sleeping in as we will be out all day

thanks for you info and any more pointers will be greatly appreciated

thanks mate
