Living in Da-Nile, nile cruise?

Hey,

Looking for info on a cruise down the Nile starting as far south as possible from the nearest airport i imagine abu simbel and going as far south again on the nile or any tributries.

Will be going on December the 17th ish returning to the uk on 27th ish of december. Is not an option travel on a shoe string as in i will sell my shoes and the strings to do it.

Ummm so is it possible to get on fishing boats or trade boats for short periods?

As is usually the case, you are probably best to just turn up and ask around! I took the ferry from somewhere near Aswan down Lake Nasser, past Abu Simbel and down to Sudan, that was pretty cheap.

There are a million felucca owners on the banks of the nile that I am sure would be happy to take you anywhere!

The best solution is to email or call a few hostels in Aswan in advance, making a reservation and informing them of your plans.

It is not allowed to enter Luxor by felucca , so all boats go to Edfu at the outmost and you then join a convoi to get to Luxor. You also cannot leave Luxor by boat unless you are on a cruiseship. This is the main problem with your plan.

I wanted to do something similar, I ended up on a felucca going down to Edfu. The trip lasted 2 nights and 3 days. It was pretty laid back, a lot of talking and not too much sailing.

Felucca captains are not interested in going too far down the nile, as they have to make the trip back to Aswan again to get any business. Sometimes they have to walk along the banks of the Nile and drag their boat behind them if there isn't any wind.

You have to be flexible, as it is relatively expensive to hire a felucca on your own. It is best to wait until there is a group of about 5 people travelling together to the same destination.
