Wow, too bad no actually uses it. Is there anyway we can get more people on the live chat or maybe make some more rooms?

Personally, I was just about ready to get rid of the feature entirely

I think a live chatting option is good, but I'm not so sure it works all that well in this context. Maybe there's a better way of doing it, more integrated into user profiles.

I agree it would have to be done in a different way then compared to other social networking sites. Although i have spent a lot of time on travellerspoint in the last few months and i never noticed it till now. Maybe spin it in a different way, have certain times that people can meet up and talk about this. Or make it a place for trip helpers can meet with people and talk with them instead of just using messages.

If it helps I think people are usually discouraged by empty forums or chat rooms. Hence no one likes to start.

I think TP viewing numbers will play a part in all that. 23 online now, not all in the forums I would think. I think the chances of asking for live help would be slim.

I think Lavafalls point of trying a new angle might work.

Maybe have a coffee mornign/Beer night - on a topical subject matter. Suggestions for TP, or a new template design commentary night. Have a little countdown timer rather than a date and time for all the international folks.

Don't know if it will boost TP's fellowship. But it would make things social for the regulars. But then that in itself makes newbies not want to participate. Maybe Peter is right - Shoot it!

BTW does TP every clear out the old user names? Like the people who registered 2 years ago and never posted anything etc. Just wondered if there was a build up of useful names, or a continuation of John Smith 12321321i392u392139283109 Nope, can't inspire myself to chat about that either.

When I first joined TP, and for the first ~1.5 years. the chat room was in use quite often. Several of the "regulars" would meet for "Lunch Bunch" around 11am CST. Other members would come in, ask travel questions and either stick around to just chat or go on their way. Part of the problem with a continuing group like that - most everyone changed jobs, were blocked from access, went traveling, etc, etc, etc. Also, one of the other problems, new members would come in trying to have private conversations with some of the female members looking for a way to get to America or Europe - it became annoying. Then there were the ones who would sit in the room all day, waiting for anyone to whom they could promote their travel businesses.

I do know that people would come in to ask about a certain destination, thinking each forum had it's own chat room which isn't the case. I'm not sure how to bring people back to the chat room either, but both Michael and Outcast have good points.
