Ok, on December 28th i am going to be on the Southern coast of Oaxaca for a wedding on the border of Chiapas. All the wedding stuff will be over by the morning of the 2nd of Jan and i will have roughly 10 days to do as a i please before i head back for Mexico City. My flight will be out of Mexico City on the 15th of Jan and everyone tells me i should spend a few days there before heading back.

Here are my questions, which ruins and towns are the best to see in Chiapas. How much are the rough costs? Lastly How do I get to and how long does it take to get to Mexico City from Chiapas. I want to avoid another flight because of the cost but if a flight is a good idea then i will do it. I like to travel on a pretty tight budget and don't mind dorm rooms as long as the guesthouse is good.

I know it is not a long time to travel around, usually i go for 6 week trips and since i am in the south that is why i am thinking Chiapas. Also my friend who is getting married recommended Chiapas to me. I am also considering extending my trip depending on work stuff. Thanks Michael.

You should go to San Cristobal De Casas amazing little town in the mountains. You will see Lanconda Indians who live deep in the jungles between Mexico and Guatamala. Go to the churchs and see how the indians mix their Mayan beliefs and the Catholic Religion with their rituals in side the church. Ruins in the area are Palenque and Tonina both are quite far from the coast. You can also take a 1st class bus from San Cristobal to Oaxaca, interesting city with a great large market. You could also take a train from Oaxaca to Mexico City. I think it took 12 hours when I did it.
Enjoy your trip.
Paul.
