I'm not sure if this should be in the Regional Travel section so I apologize in advance.

I'm interested in booking a 5 day vacation in the Bahamas for 4 or 5 people for AS CHEAP as possible. (We are all 19 years old). We want to get on the island, relax on the beach, party a little at night, and have a good time. We aren't concerned about upscale resorts with luxury pools etc. (We are, however, concerned about safety). Basically, i would like to hear from someone who has planning tips or insight into cheap places to stay on the island etc. Also, are there hostels in the Bahamas? I think i read about them but i'm not 100% sure. I hope I made it easy for everyone to understand my question. Thanks!

Have you looked at the Bahamas travel guide and budget accommodation in Bahamas? The Bahamas guide is not very comprehensive compared to others like London, Malaysia and Australia, but it'll give you some insights.

Hey ANS,

I had planned a trip to the Bahamas earlier this year, which I ended up cancelling, but maybe some of the research I did might be of some use.

Basically, I found that you can't seem to do the Bahamas on the cheap. I found the Orange Hill Inn in Nassau, which looked like a fun lively place to stay, but was costing as much as any hotel really. http://www.orangehill.com/index.htm I was in contact with the owner who is from Northern Ireland and really friendly

Also, check out the Towne Hotel, but I didn't really like the look of this place much. http://www.townehotel.com/

I used this site to get a bit of info about Paradise Island http://www.nassauparadiseisland.com/about-the-island/

Hope those links are of some use to you. I wouldn't think safety is too much of a problem on the Bahamas as long as you're not wandering around alone in the dead of night. :)

Thanks for the replies, they helped somewhat. I had already found decently priced hotels so that wasn't too much of an issue. I am really interested in finding out about youth hostels in the Bahamas (are there any?). I haven't bee able to find much info on them. Also, if anyone has stayed in one (in the Bahamas), please post and share your experience!
