If you are still looking to buy...

you can pick up a Canon 450D with a lense for around £390 from Jessops currently. Which is an amazing deal, so good that i am going to be getting one this week. :)

The latest digital SLRs are awesome! Does anyone buy film ones anymore?

A great site for anyone looking at purchasing a DSLR and doesn't have a wack invested in lenses already should check out :http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/ratings.php?ratingsGroup=SLR

It has ratings and reviews for a very wide range of cameras, they also go very indepth. There is a lot of advertisements to be clicked around though. Even though there are so many ads, I think they do a good job of being impartial. But as always, use your own head.

I didn't pay too clase attention to forum rules. Can I post links?

JUST REMEMBER FOR WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE - BODIES GO OUT OF DATE ! (mine is 1yr old and preceded twice already) GLASS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ...

nah it only goes out of date if you want to have the the newest most powerful thing out there.

I got an old Canon eos-20d. sure it doesn't have a gajillion megapixels but I've used it at work plenty of times for product shots and detail shots for catalogs. it gets a decent sized picture at 300dpi. I know a few photographers that use it for low-light concert photography. And I've used their shots for two page magazine ads.

that's what I'd go with if I were you. you can pick up an older preowned body online for cheaper and spend more money on a nice lens. that way too you don't care as much about getting it dirty and scratched.

I don't know anyone that has a nikon but I hear good things

my brother has one of the sony models. it's about two years old I think...anyway I thought it was good and I was a little jealous but then I saw some of the shots he was shooting in low light...a little too noisy for my tastes. but that's just me. he still loves it.

obviously though you get what you pay for, but most people and pros don't need the most expensive thing out there.
