The time has come! We've unshackled the photo upload, removed the pesky "bandwidth limits" and are now allowing everyone unlimited uploads on Travellerspoint. That's right, unlimited. Just keep on uploading until the cows come home. We won't mind.

We have however placed some limits on how many of your original files we will store. So if you upload at full resolution and want to treat Travellerspoint as a sort of backup for your photos, then you will be somewhat constrained. 100MB for new members, 1GB for Full Members and 5GB for Respected Members and above. But even if you use that up, you can STILL keep on uploading photos - the originals just won't be stored. If you do decide to use Travellerspoint as a backup, then rest assured that your photos are safe. We are storing duplicate copies of you photos on Amazon's infrastructure as well as our own servers. Of course, we would still advise that you keep some copy of your own as well. You can't be too safe with those memories! (did I just sound like an insurance salesman?? )

In addition to this change, we're also introducing a new photo management area. It allows you a much easier overview of photos and has some nice sorting capabilities as well as options to filter by tag and/or country. Have a look here.

As always, let us know if you find bugs. We've tested in multiple versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera and are more or less satisfied that things should work. But that doesn't mean there aren't some things that we just plain forgot to test for :)

Don't forget to update the FAQ entry on this. :) (Plus any other things (like the moblog explanation) which also make note of the existence of monthly limits.)

Sweetness!!

The whole bandwidth per month thing was just too confusing for too many. This concept makes a lot more sense and straightaway highlights something we do that no other travel blog site does, ie. allow for storing originals!

And of course if anyone wants to upgrade their backup for original photos, I will take my usual payment in beers :)

Oh, one other change is that now when you are viewing your own public gallery, you will have links at the top back to manage that gallery. It should be much faster now to get back to make changes. You won't see this though until you've logged out and then logged back in!

"bug": Text on the my photo comments page currently flows out of its constrained box if the comment was particularly long. I'd change the .photo_comment { height: 75px; } to min-height in my_areas.css (assuming that doesn't have any repercussions elsewhere).

Thanks for the heads up; should be fixed now along with some validation issues ;)

Thanks. (Note: it isn't yet for the https version.)

The new photo management screens don't link to the extended edit pages (my_photo_edit instead of my_photos_edit) anymore, which means it's no longer possible (without URL guessing) to change the "show in gallery" (aka "is a photo") and "allow this photo to be featured" settings. This just caused a problem for someone.

I don't know if you want to completely retire the old edit page, but if so, I'd at least make those checkboxes show up on the new edit page if there's just a single photo shown.

Maybe I am being stupid ( I am really no good with all this technical stuff) but, at the bottom of my photo page it says that featured photos will have a star next to them. I know some of my photos have been featured, but don't see no stars.
