Hi guys,

Sorry to write yet another thread regarding budgets and advice etc but ive been trawlling these forums for a while now and seem to be getting mixed respsonses from different posts. I guess im just looking for some reassurance really.

Basically, im a 21 year old single guy travelling alone and planning to fly to Melbourne end of Nov, (stop in HK for 2 nights) then travel upto Sydney for New Years which I have booked. Fly to Cairns then travel back down the East Coast to Sydney. Taking me roughly 3 Months. Then fly to Thailand and stay there for 1 Month.

Major highlights I want todo are:
New Years in Sydney
Scooba Driving in the Barrier Reef
and Jungle trekking somewhere!

I have paid for all my flights (inc interal), Visas and some of my accomodation in Sydney. Im hoping to take £4000 cash for the whole thing (so trips and Accom/food etc) and I have also just ordered a £2000 credit card which im not to fussed if I max out. I also only have a tourist Visa. The point of my trip is to get away from work, haha!

Could someone just reassure me that its do-able, haha! Also, all going well I may well chip over the border of Thailand to Laos or Cambodia...should I still have some funds left!

Thanks in advance and sorry again to ask someonething 101 people have already asked!

I'm no financial expert but that sounds like plenty of money to me. I traveled around OZ, NZ, and Fiji for 5 and a half months on around $5000- $6000 US and I did a lot of the same things as you. Especially if your flights are already booked, you should be fine. Just don't blow ALL your money on beer, a good chunk in the backpacker way! Have fun, let me know if you have any other questions...ta

Hi Jamie.

Just reading your post. I reackon you have plenty of money for your trip. Plus you have the fallback of the credit card so I really would not worry about your finances. Thailand will be much cheaper that Oz. I spent exactly a month there two years ago and spent about £1000, but that was staying in nice places, eating in nice places and I even bought two suits!!

If you were thinking of a jungle trek then may I suggest Chang Mai in Northern Thailand. Well trodden but plenty of choice and proper jungle trekking with a few activites thrown in (rafting, elephant riding). Chang Mai and the surrounding region is very beautiful and is well worth a week of your time. Diving in Koh Tao (google it) is also reccomended and is so cheap.

I will be flying into Sydney on Xmas Eve, staying in Coogee for 5 days then central Sydney for NYE. On my own too so if you at a loose end give me a shout!
