With only 12 hours i would go to Hong Kong.
From the airport you can jump straight on the airportexpress train and be in HK centre in 25 mins. You can then CHECK IN to your next flight (if you need to) at HK central station, where the expresstrain dropped you off. This is very handy indeed so you can have 12 hours without your luggage. The transport system is so good in HK that you can be anywhere within minutes and it is really cheap. HK is relatively small so you can see quite a bit of it in 12 hours. I also love Bangkok but it is far bigger and more difficult to get around. You will get more for your time in HK therefore i recommend it but I am not saying Bangkok is a bad place, in fact i really love Bangkok, one of the best cities in the world, but you really need more than 12 hours in it if you want to see more than a traffic jam.

HK all the way ... if your lucky enough to have a clear day then Victoria Peak is such a must do! ... mind blowing views of the city!

and with recently being in HK i can totally agree with the public transport system, really good and wayyyy easy!

I love both cities and I would also vote for HK for all the reasons mentioned. Things move slower in Bangkok and you will spend too much of your time just trying to get around. You'll be able to make better use of your short time in HK.

I completely agree with the above opinions. Bangkok (to me) is a much nicer city, but it's a place that you need to take your time for to explore, as everything moves slowly, and especially getting into the city from the airport takes half an eternity (getting back to the airport takes the other half). :)
So yeah, definitely go see Hong Kong.

Sorry to jump onto someone else's post but I am also stopping over in Hong Kong, but im staying for 2 nights.

Just want to know, 2 things really. Is it worth me booking up a hotel in advance for the 2 nigths im there, or is a hostel a possibility? And also what sort of money will I be looking at for the hostel/hotel for the 2 nights?

I dont particularly want anything fancy, but I do want to be able to get some sleep for the 2 nights im there, espicially after the long haul flight, haha!

Thanks in Advance,

Jamie.

Try the Dragon Hostel in Mongkok. Very cheap, very quiet, friendly staff and you can have your own room (although rooms are tiny in HK) and close to the MTR station. I have stayed there a couple of times and I will be staying there again next time. I would definitely book it in advance, HK is very busy so I wouldn't risk it as you really don't want to be wondering around HK looking for a hostel, it is really far too busy and the hostels are all hidden away on random floors of some huge tower blocks!!!!
