Help me please! - Palenque or Oaxaca city for New Years Eve?

Hi there

If you have any opinion/view on which place will be best to spend New Years Eve, please pass it on to me.

I'm not a big party goer so i'm not looking for that...I just want to be in a place that has a good atmosphere, friendly people, good food, some drinks/cocktails and some good music.

Which is best - Palenque or Oaxaca City?

My vote is for Palenque only because to me it might be a little mellower compared to Oaxaca. In some parts of Mexico you might not even know it's the new year. I would imagine that Oaxaca would be a little more festive. Just my HO

I would seriously look into finding out about places to stay if you are going to decide on Palenque.
It is very small if i remember correctly and the first night i stayed there close to the ruins was basically just a hut.
After not much sleep and it being very hot i then treated myself to a hotel for 2 nights although due to the air con being on i ended up with flu.

Have you considered San Cristobal De Las Casas?

I just got back from Oaxaca and I rank it in my top ten of places I like to visit. Lots to do--or not do--if you want. If you want quiet you might want to consdier one of the B&B's that aren't right on the square.

A quick word--book soon! My uncle has a B&B in Tlalixtac (about 10k from the city) and they are already fillling up.
