Hello fellow nutjobs,

I was just wondering.....

Has anyone seen Zeitgeist? I happened to watch both it and its sequel Zeitgeist:Addendum the other night, and honestly they kind of rattled me a little. Usually, I love a good conspiracy theory, but there was something really unsettling (but ultimately eye-opening) about these movies.

Anyone else seen them?

Ev

Haven't seen them yet Ev, but they're going on the queue on our Netflix subscription. I love a good conspiracy too.....but, as with all good stories, you have to take into account that the storyteller probably has a grudge. Not that they don't have good and valid points to make....most do....I especially like Michael Moore's documentaries. But I have to keep telling myself Not everything you see and hear is fact, or as the Firesign Theater used to say Everything you know is wrong....wait, forget that last one.....

Still, I love the fact that someone actually raises the questions, especially in our paranoid Homeland Security society.

I liked the first one when it came out.
Not all of the religious points are true but they are certainly good points.

The "Addendum" I didn't like as much. The first 48 minutes are great... really great.
But then it goes off into some tangent about making a Utopian society of robot slaves? WTF.

I watched this a couple of weeks ago and found it very interesting, especially the part about 9/11. I was sceptical about watching it at first but found it thought provoking and eye opening. We are trying to get hold of the second one at the moment.

Yeah! That was kind of the unsettling part I mean I think maybe these people are actually onto a good idea, but the word "cult" did spring to mind once or twice while watching it.

Bex, you can download Addendum on the net for free. :)

I've seen the first one. It is, like Beerman said, as many of this type: you get good infos, you get to ask the question, but you can't take it all as it is and say "Thats' right!"

It's correctly built, that's for sure, but some points are used on purpose to say something they don't necessarily mean. Talking about the religion thing, most of the facts they put on the table are true, but they could be used as well by some new-age lecturer to get to the exact opposite conclusions.

I also consider a few evidences as fake. The first on the list is this audio recording of the man who's supposed to have talked with Rockefeler. It sounds so ridiculous, this discussion he pretends to have had makes such a vilain out of Rockefeler, and such a naive white boy of the interlocutor. It goes "And then he said "we must be merciless with small people to dominate the world" and I said "Why? You are not a good person if you want to rule the world" and he answered me "Being a good person is not important, money is important, now YOU PRAY SATAN OR DIE!".

Sure that I'm exagerating, but this all sounded like some Pinky and the Brain episode.

But all in all, apart from these details, I thought it was a good movie, and I wonder: Has any American verified about this tax that is said to be illegal?

I feel that I must see it now.

Absolutely! That part about Rockefeller was so dodgy! It sounds very far fetched to be sure, but you never know I suppose. We live in a crazy world.

Both movies certainly do make good points, and they made me feel good about my own life choices in a strange way.

As for the taxes, wouldn't it be great if that was true

I just watched the first one this afternoon, and it really made me think about the current financial crisis.

I felt the same way the first time i saw it, but after having looked into it i realised it a bunch of lies and misinterpretations.

Take the claim that at least six of the 9/11 hijackers are still alive. While its true that bbc and daily telegraph reported that some of them were alive, the very same sources have later dismissed it as cases of mistaken identitys.

This site debunks pretty much the whole movie:

As opposed to zeitgeist it uses sources. Its surprising how many of the "facts" that are just plain wrong.
