The location is absolutely excellent; right across the road from Central Station - perfect if you're just arriving (or about to leave) by plane. I never stayed there myself, but looking at it here at travellerspoint, I see that Sam gave it the maximum rating for cleanliness. (And there's 377 ratings across all affiliated booking systems, giving it 86% overall rating.)

As Sander noted, I gave Wake up top marks for cleanliness. I've stayed at quite a few hostels during my travels, and this is definitely one of the best, not just in terms of cleanliness, but also for security, location (see the map on the page Sander linked to) etc. The vibe in big hostels like this and the YHA (which another great hostel on the same block as you can see on the Wake Up page showing nearby hostels) is not the same as in small sub 100 bed hostels, but there's plenty of those to enjoy all around Australia that sometimes one of the bigger ones can be nice in terms of vibe too. The only real downside is the price, but that's pretty much a common problem anywhere in Sydney!

I had a friend stay at the Wake Up hostel they said it was great, another one to look at is the Base hostel (its a little bit more central) I've stayed there and though it wasn't too bad at all.

what are the usual prices for hostils (per night ) in these areas

You can do an instant search for prices on the days you are after using one of the above links. It really depends a bit on the size of the dorm room, or if you choose a private room. Also, certain times of year (Christmas/New Years) fill up in Sydney way in advance (probably already sold out now for the most popular places), so prices tend to go way up around those periods as well. On average, I'd say around 35 AUD per night in one of the better hostels in Sydney. Could hit 40 if it's a small dorm room.

Hi Guys, thanks for the good feedback! As Sander said we are in a great spot next to the central station, we are well known for keeping the place clean with full time cleaners onsite during the day and the night. The bathrooms are cleaned twice a day and the beds come ready to sleep with sheets and quilts. As for meeting people, we have some free activites every week for our guest and we are home to the Side Bar. There is a free city orientation walk on Wednesdays and a free coastal walk from Coogee beach to Bondi Beach on Fridays. There are usually 30 to 50 people on these and with a free beer at the end, it's a good oportunity to have a chat and make some friends. The Side Bar is a well know travellers bar in the basement at the hostel, you can join our facebook site for wake up and see some photos and videos from the bar (there are also a few vids on youtube if you search side bar sydney). As for prices, our dorms start at 28 dollars. My advice, book early! Enjoy your trip and we hope to see you!
