I applied for and was granted a visa for going to Oz next year. However, I never had to give any evidence of having a certain amount of money in my bank (or is it just a myth that you have to do this?).
I got my visa from this website...is this right?
Yes, that's the right (official) website, and (virtually) no one ever has to provide proof of funds. (I think it only happens if there's something in the application which makes them believe the funds might not be available; and that'd probably only happen for the very small percentage of applications which are randomly picked out to be checked by hand.)
The requirement of having them is there, because almost everyone does really need that much money - but, as another travellerspoint member who was an immigration expert used to say, "backpackers are considered low risk," and so they don't check up on it.
(I believe there's a minute chance you'll be asked upon arrival in the country, although once again I don't know of anyone who was ever actually asked for it.)

Some years ago they still used to check this, but like Sander said, it basically never happens anymore. You are good to go!
I got my visa granted on Wednesday, i have been in the Army, and i have been in trouble with the police, and never needed to provide any extra information than my two mates who i am going with!!!
I had been worrying for the last 9 days but it now seems all over nothing
