Hi, I'm going to be spending the next six months or so in Sydney, I almost definitely have a job lined up, and would like to rent a double room in Sydney for a while.
Does anyone have advice? does anyone have a room? Does anyone want to team up with me and my boyfriend and find a place?
All suggestions appreciated!
hello there, just off of the subject of rooms-as i have no idea sorry!! just wondering how you have managed to secure a job and did you go through a company? i am also thinking of travelling to Oz for 6 months hopefully!
I TRAWLED the internet and looked at sites advertising jobs, and emailed a company directly with my Cv and details. I did this to like a million places, got a few replies. I have to contact them when I arrive, and sort out TFN etc.....but it's worthwhile emailing off your details!
The rental market in Sydney is quite good at the moment. There are a lot of vacant properties as there has been a bit of a building boom over the past few years.
There are a lot of places quite close to the city, both north (neutral bay, mosman), south (green square, surry hills) and east (darlinghurst, bondi, paddington).
Have a look at www.domain.com.au as they have a search facility for renters and for people looking to share.
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
I have one choice, save of up to around 75% OFF normal room rates
thanks jessianne-much appreciated. x
When you get to Sydney start by going to backpacker hostels and checking out noticeboards; they have loads of fully-furnished apartments / studios. The Work and Travel Company at 234 Sussex st has a good noticeboard; Travellers Contact Point in the Dymocks building, George St city centre is also good. Council Exchange in York St is another.
I would book a private room at a good hostel like WAKE-UP or base or Footprints for one week then check out all the information sources listed above. Renting is quite good right up until the beginning of November then it gets more difficult as Sydney fills up for the summer.
I have a friend who is going to work overseas for 3-months and may want to sublet his place in Paddington - central Sydney suburb. I'll check it out for you.
Majito here again. When are you arriving? My friend is leaving in two weeks for a 3-month project in LA. He'srenting his one bedroom flat for $200 a week. If you are interested let me know via here.
you'll probably want to sublease a place from someone as leases generally go for six months minimum, sydney is expensive place to live if u don't want to stay in the western suburbs (which believe me u do not). Staying in a share house might be a good option as they are cheap and it's a good way to meet people. Don't worry if your job doesn't pull through, if you have experience as a waitress, bar work etc you'll have no problems finding work. Retail is pretty big there too and a trained monkey can do it. Even if you don't have experience the novelty of being from another country will get u a job. Australia is a great place, while u r here try to see the tasmanian forests befor it all gets chopped down. and if it becomes too pricey in sydney brisbane is a really cheap city to live in and the weather is a lot nicer too
I don't arrive in sydney until the 29th november, but if you are looking to share accommadation with another couple, and arriving around then..give me a shout as my boyfriend and I will be looking for accommadation aswell.
