Picking fruit in OZ

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Picking fruit in OZ

Hi
I'll be leaving for Australia in the summer on a working holiday visa and am looking at the different job options. Does anyone have experience picking fruit in Australia. It seems to be a common way to make some cash for backpackers in Oz. If anyone has done this, was your experience good or bad and what could one expect for income ? !

Any info is helpful. Thanks
Paul

I picked bananas for one and a half month. Nice experience, but you dont really earn much. Think it was around nine euros per hour. Generally you'll have to work two months to afford to travel for one. The work can be quite hard, but it depends. My boss was nice so we had breaks all the time, and i just cut down dead leafes. Carrying the bananas can be exhausting.

9 euros an hour would be 17 australian dollars would it not ? where in oz did you pick bananas and did you meet many other travellers when you were doing it ?
thanks for the input
