Backpackers and Tasmania do not seem to go together, it seems that everyone has heard of Byron Bay but not Launceston.
Having lived in Byron Bay in my early twenties I think it has definitely lost its charm, overpriced, overcrowded and more foreigners than actual Australians.
Europeans who come to Australia to avoid their winter should travel further south, Tasmania in Summer is like Sydney in 1970.
There is work for backpackers, cost of living is lower, scenic unspoilt environment, safe to cycle, camp and enjoy the unique scenery with temperatures in the twenties not the thirties.
