We are trying to plan the SE Asia leg (starting in the next few days) of our RTW trip and have allotted our time as follows:
3-4 weeks Vietnam
2 weeks Cambodia
2 weeks Laos
4 weeks Thailand
To give you a bit of info we like exploring temples, places of culture, perhaps visit some non-touristy minority villages, quiet and not over-developed beaches as well as the odd party (but are not party animals).
It would be great if you could let me know if we are on the right lines in terms of timings or whether we need to reorganise our time.
Thanks very much,
I would say your timing is perfect.
You will need all the time allotted for VN, Thailand & Laos. The only place you could save a few days is Cambodia. You will need at least 3 days for Angkor Wat, say 3 for Phnom Penh and then perhaps 3 for Sihanoukville or Kampot/Kep. Add a few days for travel and you might have 3-4 days to add to another country. This is where flexibilty is needed. You might love one city or beach enough to stay longer than planned. Or dislike one place enough to move on faster than you originally thought. Don't lock yourself into a rigid schedule. Your most memorable experience might be totally unplanned.
My 2 cents.

Thanks guys for your feedback.
Yes, we plan to be as flexible as possible, but it's good to know we're on the right lines in terms of timings.
Thanks very much!
