Im travelling to Oz on 12 Jan on my own, Im staying with some family for a week or so at first who live about an hour north of Sydney then going back to Sydney to start the real trip up the East coast, but am not sure whether to book any accomodation as not exactly sure what day i will be arriving!?
Is it possible to walk into a hostel and just book a room/dorm or are they likely to be fully booked, especially at that time of year??
I was looking at the 'wake up' or one of the YHA's, possibly central?
you may get 1 but its there busy period with new year and all that you should have booked 6 month in advance i know it seems a long time but like i say its there really busy period cos its there summer
Booking six months in advance is only necessary for the days around Christmas and New Years themselves. For mid January there's still lots and lots of accommodation available.
joker69696 is right that it's high season though, so I'd try to book about a week in advance if you can. (Most places you can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before you were set to arrive, so that gives you some leeway if your plans change during that week.)
There will undoubtedly be a few places which'll still have accommodation on the day itself, but you'd be facing a long search to find them.
im thinking of getting to oz around oct/nov time how hard will it be to find a share house for a few months at that time?
