I would NOT be so positive about the availability of your particular pill in SE Asia- If you go to the website for Yasmin they have county information links only in America ( North, Central and South), Europe and Israel.

http://www.yasmin.com/html/index.html

Different drugs get submitted by the manufacturing company for approval, and then go through approval processes in different countries at different times. Some companies only market their drugs in certain countries and not others.... If this particular brand has not been approved in certain countries, you may not be able to get it, but may be forced to get an alternative - which will have a slightly different composition of the estrogen and progesterone ,and you may not want to change products...

Personally I would not have a problem prescibing 12 months worth-the pharmacy may only dispense 6 months worth on one script so you may need to actually have 2 separate scripts ( or even go through the farce of going to 2 different pharmacies). I agree the other issue may be payment for it-- if you have your bcps payed for by insurance coverage they may not pay for the second 6 months by their policy, and you may need to pay for it out of your own pocket...

I've tried to look into this a bit more for you...

I can't find anything from the drug companies that make me confident Yasmin is marketed in SEA-
But on at least one other chat forum someone did say that they found it in local pharmacies in Thailand- while someone else says they did not in the pharmacy they went to and was asking about alternative products....

Maybe someone who is in , say Bangkok, or HCMC could help you out with more accurate information....

Yasmin is a product of Bayer Healthcare, and they have offices worldwide, including Thailand.

Unfortunately that may not necessarily answer the question that was asked... There are many many drugs from a given company that are approved ( and available) in one country and not another, regardless of the presence of the company in that country.

Again, it may well not be a problem, but just looking at the drug web site gives me some doubts.

As I said in my post above...Yasmin is available in Thailand, I have seen it in pharmacies there and I know someone who lives in Thailand who takes this brand of pill and she has no problems getting it.

Wow thank you everyone for looking into this for me

I think I'm going to go with the fingers crossed attitude because in the worst case I could try a different pill.

Thank you everyone

i wouldnt stress in the slightest. getting another pill if you cant get yasmin (which is EXPENSIVE) isnt an issue. my doc said he would prescribe it to me and then told me how much it was and asked if i wanted the generic brand, cos it doesnt make any difference.... i wouldnt worry about it.

Also, it might be the case that it's branded differently in other countries. For example, I think it's called Yaz here in the USA.....

Oral contraceptives, including Yasmin, should be available in all of the countries you are visiting.

I once knew a girl named Yasmin, and she was no oral contraceptive. On the contrary......
