I imagined this would be an easy queston to answer, I was wrong.
I want to spend 90 days in southeast asia. I want to use Bangkok as my arrival/departure city. As an US citizen I may get a 30 day tourist visa upon entry. For 60 days I need to apply for a visa before departure. But with a departure date 90 days past my arrival in Thailand what visa(s) do I need to apply for? How do I prove i'm not spending all that time in Thailand? Am I going to be forced to purchase a flight from Bangkok to Hanoi (for example) as proof of my leaving Thailand within my 90 day stay in sotheast asia?
Sorry if this sounds confusing.
Please Help.
P.S.- I've heard that when entering Thailand, as long as you look presentable, it's not a big deal. It's the airlines that won't allow you to board without proper visas.

I think you can apply for an additional of 30 days from the first 60-day permit. This can be done Immigration Office, in Bangkok. Just show your tickets. The fee is Baht 1,900 Baht for the extension. However, I heard that the extension depends on the official's discretion, so, you are right, things about "the look" should be taken into consideration when you go to apply for the extension. Sometimes they also ask for financial proof.
