hi there,

My friends and i are planning to go to Glasgow and Edinburgh in April. I have googled around about tour to Lochness. My questions are :

1. how far is Lochness to Glasgow or Edinburgh. can i make it a day trip?
2. Tour package is a bit expensive for budget travellers like us? is it worth it to go and explore on our own?
3. Maybe 4-5 of us are travelling. Should we get an apartment or hostel? can you recommend?

cheers.

lh

The answers are:

1. Yes--it's not that far to the southern end of Lochness. Since you will probably want to go on to Inverness, though--you should probably plan to spend a night there and then return the next day (P.S. I suggest Endinburgh over Glasgow--and you should visit the castle there).

2. Yes--there's not a gigantic difference between the tours versus doing it yourself--you get the spectacular scenery either way.

3. This is up to you and your friends. I would guess that an apartment would be better and costs about the same as the hostel for a whole bunch of you--but no, I can't recommend one since I haven't been to Scotland for a number of years.

Enjoy

Loch Lomond is so much better. Loch Ness is nice but for your time - one day - is not enuff. Go to Loch Lomond - its much closer from Glasgow and alot nicer I think. But still its not a day trip.

A Guest House might be cheap enuff for 4 of you. Hostels are quite expensive in Scotland.

Easyjet operates on that route.
