Thanks for the replies guys. I'm still in the planning stage. I'm pretty sure, i'm going to Sumatra for the orangutans but I'm still trying to figure out where to go after that I'm considering staying on Sumatra and trekking there instead of Lombok . Not sure though. Can anyone comment on Sumatra and the mentawai islands. Again I've never been to Indo. Java also looks interesting and considering going there from Sumatra for the trekking part of my journey. Maybe it would help if I identify what important to me for the 3-4 week trekking part of my trip.

intermediate surf breaks
good to excellent snorkeling/spearfishing
