Hey guys - we need to get from Graz (Austria) to Cologne/Dusseldorf/Maastricht on the cheap for 2 people on the 15th or 16th February 2009. Currently quoted in excess of Eu300. Any way possible. What do you guys think or recommend.

Where did you look? If you can get the Austria special offer from Deutsche Bahn the train ticket should be 29 EUR or 39 EUR per person. See http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en - and yes, you can buy online with credit card. (Just make sure you pick "print out ticket" and that the credit card is in the name of one of the travellers.) The OEBB offers similar bargains for some tickets to Germany, see www.oebb.at . (Just note that with these special offers you are limited to the connection you picked, so do not miss your train!) BTW, 14th/15th Feb is a weekend. That means that (if you cannot get the above special) you can use the so-called Happy-Weekend-Ticket. With this ticket a group of up to 5 people can travel on regional trains throughout Germany for just 35 EUR global price. It is slow, but a real bargain if you compare to regular prices of 200 EUR return per person for certain longer distances in Germany. |
