Is there any real way to make money from your pics?

Travel Forums Travel Photography Is there any real way to make money from your pics?

Hello,
I am going to be traveling extensively through out South America (arguably the most beautiful Continent in the world) at the begining of 2009. I am a relatively good video/photographer and my brother is a very good amature photographer.
I would think that there has got to be some way to make money from selling unique and beautiful pics even though there not from pros, you know? Maybe some one you could hook up with in advanced?

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!!

Pura Vida,

ice

There is.
Be really good at marketing.
10% of professional photography is taking the photos. 90% is selling them.

There are literally millions of people with high quality DSLRs travelling the world at this very moment, all of whom will at some point have played with the thought that it'd be nice to earn some money with the photos they take. That's your competition. How do you distinguish yourself?

Probably the most accessible path goes via stock photography. You can either give away your photos for pennies at microstock agencies, thereby helping dilute the value of good photos even more, or you can spend a lot more time and submit them to a more professional agency.
Alternatively you could try working out a deal with a magazine. That's where the being really good at marketing aspect comes in.
Finally, if you have an audience, or think you could create one (more hard marketing work), you could look into selling fine art prints.
