Hey
I’m hoping to go away next year and I'm planning a trip by land to South East Asia and back again, and am looking for anyone who might be interested in joining me, be it for a couple of weeks, months or for the whole kerblam
I have a rough route planned in my head, but obviously I want to keep it fairly loose so other people who want to do the trip can put their own ideas into it etc. Just for info the route I'm working towards is below, though as I said this isn't fixed. There's nothing stopping it from say, becoming a round the world trip by land (and sea obviously!) or going to Australia from Asia / Indonesia - the world is our oyster so to speak!

I would expect to be away for anywhere between 5 - 9 months, roughly speaking!, and to do it as cheap as possible!

Anyway, the rough route would look something like:-

Belgium - Germany - Poland - Lithuania - Latvia - Estonia - Finland - Russia - St Petersburg - Moscow (Trans Siberian To Bejing) - Siberia - Mongolia - China - Japan - Vietnam - Cambodia - Laos - Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore - Back To China - Kazakhstan (along the silk route) -Turkmenistan - Azerbaijan - Armenia - Turkey - Greece - Italy - France

And a bit myself:-

I'm 28, English male professional living in London, where I have been living for just over 3 years.. Like all the usual things and am particularly avid about music and film. I recently attended 15 films and events at the London Film Festival - some people call that obsessive, I think it's quite normal :) I also try to go to as many gigs as possible. I try to get out as much as possible and take advantage of the city I live in. I got into travelling by land after I went to Morocco and back by train. I'm sure there's loads more I could tell, but that seems enough for now, hopefully speak to you soon.....

I'm liking everything you have planned here. From the route (though I would include Australia if it were myself) to the 'doing it as cheap as possible' part. I can't wait to get on the road for a big trip. How much money do you figure you yourself would need and when do you plan to start you trip ?!

Australia would defintely be a cool add on, as i said, I'm pretty much open to any ideas and would be an amazing thing to go there by land! I plan to start the trip in mid-July and a friend of mine who has done this sort of thing before reckons it could be done for about £4k so that's what I'm working towards. What do you think?

I understand that Turkmenistan might be a problem getting through - be sure to read Ghost Train to the Eastern Star - the author explains his problems in that country.
