how to live out of a suitcase easily

I am going on a month-long trip and I'll be on the move all the time -- definitely a waste of time to unpack and pack each time. You can now buy those packing envelopes that are supposed to give you more room in your suitcase but I find them small and expensive. I found these large plastic bags that are for storage. I got them in a Dollarama store here in Toronto where I live. There's 2 in a package and I paid $1 for each pack. I will pack all my tops in one, pants in another, underwear in another, etc. And this way I won't have to dig to the very bottom of my suitcase to get a t-shirt and disrupt everything else -- which would force me to keep unpacking and packing. I can just lift a bag out, get what I want and put the bag back.

Not quite-you have to fold whatever it is and then put it back-and who ever folds dirty clothes?

Also are you putting dirty things in with clean ones?

Take it from someone who's been there-roll things up small individually and keep a plastic bag for dirty things.

It's then easy to pick out clean things and jam the dirty bag full-to be dealt with whenever.

Although I pretty much use the "roll individually and stuff one bag with dirty stuff" technique, I have seen the "multiple plastic bags" technique executed very well by other travellers, generally much more organized than I am. Naturally the dirty stuff goes in a separate bag :) I think it's all about how organized you are. Also, the individual bags are easier when talking suitcase instead of backpack I'd think.

I just lived out of a 35L bag for three weeks--and it was entirely doable. Oh, plus a 16L carry-on, which I kept all my everyday things in: meds, sunglasses, kleenex & wipes (for those paper-less pit stops!), camera, hair elastics, sunscreen, bug spray, etc. Which meant I didn't have to dig around every 5 minutes when I needed something.

Because I didn't carry that much, I actually emptied my pack every night to let my clothes air out--also a lot easier to see what I had left that was clean, since I opted for a top-loading bag. Bring a big plastic bag for dirty clothes, and a few zip lock bags for any clean, wet clothes that aren't fully dry. After awhile, though, everything kinda ends up with a semi-smelly travel odour. Not to worry, though--everyone you meet travelling will smell about the same!

I've heard the 'plastic bag' method shunned by people woken up by the 'plastic bag' people when they come home drunk/get up early and they need to rustle through those bags for several minutes. Use quiet bags unless u feel like making some enemies :)

p.s. I'm so jealous of these 35L pack ppl.... I just don't think I can do it....
