I am hopefully going to South Africa in the future. I live in Ireland and have searched the internet, asked friends and relatives but nobody knows where I am supposed to apply for a tourist visa.

Can anybody help me out? A link to a website maybe?

All help greatly recieved

Thanks.

I don't think you need a tourist visa to get into South Africa (unless, I suppose, you're planning to stay for an extended period of time). For any other countries, check the your government's travel site. They'll explain your requirements country by country.

If you're planning to visit Mozambique, for example, you can also get your visa at the border.

Thanks Tway.

I may actually be visiting for ten weeks. Will this mean I will need a Visa?

You say you live in Ireland. Assuming that also means you hold an Irish passport (not always true on a forum like this) :) you don't need a visa and will be granted a visitor's permit for an intended stay of 90 days or less. (So 10 weeks is no problem.)

2. The citizen who is a holder of a national passport (diplomatic, official or ordinary) / travel document of the following countries / territories / international organisations is not required to hold a visa in respect of purposes for which a visitor’s permit may be issued or by virtue of being a person contemplated in section 31(3)(b) [diplomatic & official visit] for an intended stay of 90 days or less and when in transit:
...
Republic of Ireland
...

(Quoted from this page on the home-affairs.gov.za website, although it's currently unreachable for me, so I used the google cache instead.)

I don't know all the ins and outs of travel for Irish citizens--best to look up your country's travel site and they'll give you detailed info for every country you'd like to visit.

South Africa's beautiful, by the way. Enjoy your trip!

Magic to hear you're planning to visit our awesome country! Mmm, dunno why the official visa site is unreachable, but above info is quite right ie you don't need a visa - you'll be issued a 90 day visitor's visa on arrival. If you need to extend this for any reason, you can go to one of the Home Affairs offices in SA - or pop over a border & back again eg Swaziland.

There is loads of good & helpful info on SA Tourism's site about visas, etc - check it out on : http://www.southafrica.info/travel/documents/visas.htm

Hope that helps - if you need any other info just shout!

Thanks a lot for the information everyone. I will give those sites a look.

Thank you backinafri, some great information, good thing that is, didn't know I wouldn't need one, one less thing to worry about thanks a lot. I never thought that I could just hop the border and come back in again like you said. You learn something new everyday.

Thanks Again!
