I need help! I'm planning on studying abroad at the University of kent in Canterbury, England for a year in 2009/2010. I don't know what to do! What do I need to bring? I am sure I will be going on a student visa. Will I be able to work considering I won't be a citizen and will only be there a year max. How much US dollars should I bring with me? Is Canterbury cheaper than London?
If anyone could answer these questions and much more I would much appreciate it!
Thank you,
Michelle

If you have a student visa you can work for upto 20 hours a week term-time, more during holidays. As far as im aware, there is no restriction in what work you can do.

Canterbury wont be a whole lot cheaper than living in London, you'll probably pay around £90 a week for rent, plus bills. From what i remember (i went to Centerbury once), the uni campus is a little out of the centre so you may need to consider transport which can be quite expensive (or buy a bike!). If you budget about £10000 for the year you should be ok: if you live on beans on toast and cheap beer you can get by on £5000 ish, if you want to go out in London every weekend then lots more!

As for what to bring, you should be able to find everything you want in Canterbury!! If not, then London is only a train ride away!
