hello all. i'm heading to south america for the first time in january and without trying to stick to an intinerary of any form (ill be on the continent for 7 months), i have been trying to sort out a general plan of action.

ill be landing in rio and will be in salvador for the carnival. after that myself and mt co-conspirators would like to head north. at the moment were still unsure whether we would like to visit manaus after that or leave that til a later date when we may come back in via ecuador.

what id really like to know is people's advice on crossing from brazil into the guyana's.
- which is the most viable route to take
- best places to see, etc

we'd very much like to see the iles du salut and the kaienter falls(forgive the spelling, i have a feeling im a bit off there)

the dream plan from there would be to cross into venezuela and if possible to do some island hopping in the caribbean.

were also pretty desperate to see cuba and the yucutan peninsula before returning to south america via colombia and on down.

we accept its a pretty ambitious trip but why not be ambitious eh?

any advice on any part of this trip will be greatly appreciated.

cheers!
