Thailand - Ko Phi Phi

Hi all!!

I am travelling to Ko Phi Phi with a few friends to meet another group of friends who will be staying at :

Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort & Spa
49 Moo 8, Phi Phi Island
T. Aonang, A. Muang, Krabi 81000

Now they wil only be staying for a week and have chosen a pretty expensive (for us backpackers) resort for that time. We are looking to find somewhere closeby to that resort, it doesn't have to be a hostel but something mid-price range would be nice.

Does anyone have a place they would recommend?

Also where is all the nightlife on Ko Phi Phi? Because if we can't find somewhere near them we will at least want to be close to the nightlife

From my experience a couple of years ago you can walk to anywhere around the place within 10-15 minutes. I can't remember where I stayed (which was a budget hotel) as we were inundated with accomm brokers as soon as we walked off the ferry and selected accomm. from there. My advice, choose your accom. when you gat there. Enjoy.

Sorry I don't know of a specific place - but the island is quite small, with I think only one main town/village so most places are probably near eachother in that respect

I wouldn't expect much of nightlife, perhaps a few little bars or pubs. Also 1 week is quite long to spend there unless you're looking to do a hell of a lot of beach/sunbaking/relaxing

For nightlife you'd be better off in Phuket (Patong beach area) - but of course the natural landscape and serenity there isn't as awe-inspiring as Phi Phi.

Sounds like it should be easy enough to get around, we will at least be spending 3 days there which will probably be enough! We will be doing phuket etc anyway so if the nightlife isn't quite the same that won't be that much of a worry!!

I spent 2 weeks on Phi Phi just before the tsunami and it was a lovely place. The is PLENTY of night life there but you can also get away from it all as well if you want. To say 1 week is too long is ridiculous!!! BUT I have heard bad things about how the island has really changed since the tsunami so I cant say what it will be like now. I stayed at the Backpackers Rock Hostel and it was very cheap and I would recommend it. Just walk towards the starting point for the walk up to the view point and you will come across a big boat in the trees, like a huge tree boat, you will see what I mean when you get there, and that is the hostel (if it is still there, although I have heard that it is so you should be ok.).

I'd reccommend Ao Toh Ko Beach Bungalows. Google it and you won't have a worry. They're very friendly to backpacker budgets and have some of the best food I've ever eaten

I travelled through South East Asia for 3 and a half months (Malaysia, Thailand, Lao, Cambodia) and found that Phi Phi was without a doubt one of my fav places, we planned to spend 3 days there and ended up spending 6, we did not book anyhting in advance (any where we went) we just turned up and asked each guesthouse how much they charged, the island is not that big so you are never to far away from the night life, which consists of about 5 or so bars two that are set on the beach which are quiet fun. I prefered the nightlife here on Phi Phi than Phuket as it was mainly made up of tourists unlike Phuket where you go out and all you do is get harrassed from Thai women wanting you to take them home for a price of course...In saying that i still had fun here tho of course but I plan on visiting Asia again on my way home and in the future again and Phuket will not be on my list of places to revisit.

Daglz - that trip sounds pretty much spot on with what me and a group of mates will be doing, we're doing 3 months through the same countries! Would love to pick your brains and places to go and see! We're doing 3 months through asia starting in KL and heading north, finally finishing in vietnam before flying back to KL where i'll then be heading to the UK from there and my friends back to AUS.

How has phi phi recovered from the tsunami? I watched a documentary on the tsunami the other day, an extremely sad event lets hope it never happens again
