Just looking for some advice on a fairly compact 2 week trip from Cairns down to Sydney in 2 weeks. I've lived in NSW for 2+ years now so finally getting the finger out and seeing some of this country at last!
Also, I'm travelling on my own so if anybody wants to meet up we could try and arrange that.
Is this a particularly busy time of year for the East Coast? I'd interested in knowing what the best place to spend Christmas would be, especially with pubs closed
Plan to be in Brisbane for New Years but that could change.
Any help would be good help.
Thanks in advance!

The wet season has just started (or is about to start), so that means the stretch from Cairns down to about Brisbane will be virtually deserted as most travellers try to avoid the humidity and do the north between April and November.
Brisbane itself is a pretty boring city for a visitor. I don't know what it's like with New Years, but usually I recommend people to spend a day there and then move on.
I agree with Sander, Brisbane hasn't got much to offer. For where to spend Christmas I have posted a few options here and for New Years I can only recommend Woodford Folk Festival near Brisbane I had a great time there one New Years eve.
Spend new years camped on the beach on Fraser Island with a troopy of travellers from the UK
