From Langkawi to Phuket and around

Hi,

I will be around Singapore for the end of the year and I would like to plan a trip between Langkawi and Phuket. Basically, I will be in Singapore on the 21st of december, then I would like to go for a fews days in Kuala Lumpur (probably 2 because I have already been there) then to Langkawi island by plane. From Langkawi, I would like to reach Phuket by boat and find some interesting islands for diving and enjoy beaches and water. So the main point is here. Do you know how this kind of trip is possible, and what could be the right places to stay until 11 of january ? How to cross the border... ? This question is very large, but if you have just a part of idea it could be great. In term of budget for hotel, I will try to find place from cheap price to medium.

Hi Yvan,

Langkawi ferry seems to be going to Satun in Thailand, from there you'd probably have to take a bus or minivan to Phuket. Once in Phuket, I'd recommend you to head to the Similan Islands for a live-aboard diving trip. I did some of the most amazing dives in my life there. Alternatively, you could spend a couple of days at Khao Sok National Park which I found just as great. There's also plenty of nice hotels and guesthouses, you just have to pick one.
Concerning your visa, I think most EU citizens (you're from France, right?) get a visa upon arrival that lasts for 30 days. All you need to provide is a passport that is valid for more than 6 months and a proof you're leaving Thailand within the month (return ticket, etc.).

Many thanks for your great information. I don't have already book something but I will print your message to have it with me a try to go to Similan. You are right, I have a french passport but I will be with a Russian passport too. I've heard that now it is the same rule for both french and russian.

hello, I did the same trip but back to front last year, there is a boat which runs from phuket to Lankawi but its is very expensive as its a long way but hassle free! if this is not a problem then this is the best way to do it you may have to book this in lankawi you may need to go via Railey Beach, Phi Phi or Koh Lanta. The other option is getting to Panang and getting a bus from there which will go all the way up to thailand to various points in southern thailand.

I did the bus from Koh Lanta all the way down to Panag which changed twice with a few waits here and there but not too bad took all day.

I have to agree with the dive trip if you want to dive some of the best diving in the world!! i have dived the Barrier reef, Hawaii, NZ, Thailand and the Similian was amazing, the best way to get here is to get to Ko Lak just above Phuket ont he west coast, from here you can get various dive trips which are between 1-5 days much cheaper than booking ahead. i would recomend the 4 day tips which go out to koh Ban rock etc you see much much more.

Thank you for your very interesting information. Unfortunatelly, in 25th of december, Langkawi was more than full. So I stayed just one night. I have to go back there
