zagzee has indicated that this thread is about Argentina

Going to be in Argentina and probably doing some trekking in Patagonia and aroudn the lake district. Will be bringing my SLR along...Is it worth lugging my tripod along? Its reasonably heavy and sturdy. Is a mini-tripod more practical?

I have never had a tripod as a tourist, not even when trekking... so you are the expert photographer, you will know better what to do...
If you plan to trekk on the glacier, you will have those "grampones" metal shoes to be able to walk and jump...
The landscapes of Patagonia are great but I am not an expert photographer to answer that question.

Get a light steady tripod. Small/mini tripod usually not steady.

I never leaf home without one :-) Specialy for night shots (see some of them at my site ) you can't do without them.

But for travel i use a small tripod, it's steel and sturdy (only saw it once) and it works great for me.

If you are planing to buy one just try it with your longest lens and biggest camera.

Have fun,

Just joined this website and I must say I'm really impressed. thanks for the replies guys.....

From your replies, I suppose the mini-tripod wins....Probably going to be carrying that as I dont plan on taking any heavy lenses...

Thanks again!
