mdr has indicated that this thread is about Australia

Hello all,

First time user so go easy lol.

Me and two friends are travelling Aus in June from the uk, we are playing around with a few ideas but this is what we thought....

hire a campervan and travel from...

sydney to brisbane
brisbane to cairns
cairns to darwin
darwin to broome
broome to coral bay
coral bay to port denison
port denison to perth
perth to adelaide
adelaide to melbourne
melbourne to sydney

a few questions we have and looking for advice are.....

how long would you recommend in each place?
how much will it cost for fuel to travel this distance? (i know its a lot but we see it as an adventure)
things that are unmissable long the way?

your help and thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Mark.

Wow Mark, that's the adventure of a lifetime.
One thing's for certain - you'll stop in a lot more places than those you've listed, so it's not a question of how long to stop in just those places. It's a really obvious question but have you checked out the distances involved? There are people that take months or years to do a trip like this. It would probably take a few months purely driving, without stops!

That's a lot of driving, will that really be interesting stuck in a campervan for months on end?

Looks like fuel is in Aus about $1.10 per/litre on average so about $5-6 per gallon, maybe get 50-60 miles to gallon in a CV. So for the Sydney to Brisbane part about 580 miles so about 9.5 gallons would get you from S to B @t 9.5 * 5.5 = $52 which is actually pretty cheap, make it $60 to be safer. etc........

CV could break down though?

Its still an awesome adventure though Mark :) instead of planning the whole thing before you go and having an itinerary to go by, why don't you just land in Aussie, hire the camper and see how it goes...I mean, definitely do some research before you go and see which cities/towns/landmarks are must-sees for you. But you'll also pass through places you didn't know about where you'll wanna stop etc, so make sure you leave room for flexibility ;)
