I'll be landing in Ecuador in January and I would like to go to Colombia and Venezuela and back again into Ecuador, but I'm having second thoughts about it because of all the stuff that I read online... Has anyone crossed from ecuador into colombia or from colombia to Venezuela and vice versa?
As for colombia and venezuela, are they as dangerous as foreign govs would have us believe? Anyone know of anyone directly who's had trouble in either Colombia or Venezuela?
The Colombia/Venezuela border was constantly being closed because of Chavez's posturing, and Uribe's posturing. It is a dicey crossing in that you never know whether it will be open. I've never crossed the Ecuador border, but there was some strife there a while back as Colombian soldiers decided to continue to chase guerrillas who were using the border as a get out of jail free guard..."nah nah nah, we crossed the border...You can't touch us!! Phtffftttt!!!" Ecuador sent a perfunctory admonishment, but seemed sanguine...up until Chavez mixed it up, then there was a whole thing.
That was over a year ago. Perhaps things have cooled since then.
