Cancelling a Visa

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Cancelling a Visa

I may need to cancel my Australian whv as I won't have the funds to support myslef for a year and don't want to waste the visa by coming home early. I am currently in New Zealand and have not yet entered Australia on my visa. I know I can cancel it and re-apply but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a time limit? Ideally I would like to go back to the UK and save for maybe 2 years before going again. As long as I am still within the age restrictions would this be ok?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you've already got the visa I am 99% sure it can't be cancelled :(

I think you can actually cancel your WHV. Quoting from this page:

To have your Working Holiday visa cancelled, contact the Working Holiday visa processing centre.
Email: Working Holiday application enquiry form

(Although that page also says "you can travel to Australia at any time in the 12 months from the date the visa is granted (this cannot be extended or deferred)" (emphasis mine), which makes it iffy again.

Beyond that, the only relevant information I can find is that the eligibility information specifically says: "You must: not have entered Australia on a Working Holiday visa before" (emphasis mine), which does suggest that you could apply a second time.

em123: Based on the above, I suspect there's no time limit or anything other than your age. Still, to be certain, I'd recommend contacting the Australian department of immigration directly.

Thanks for getting back to my guys!

Just thought I would post my reply from the Visa Bureau:

If your visa has been granted and you do not intend to go to Australia within the 12 months then you can let the visa lapse. If you are wanting to go to Australia but as a visitor then we will need a declaration off you as the tourist visa would overwrite your working holiday visa and the workingholiday visa is non refundable. You are able to apply 12 months later, as long as you still reach the requirements.

On your confirmation of your working holiday visa, it wil state the last entry date into Australia.
If you do not go to Australia within that 12 months then you can re apply after the last entry date into Australia.

I have WHV that expires in March. I tried to delay it due to family circumstances but they told me to reapply when it expires, I have my flights booked and land in Sydney in June now ... I just hope they grant me the new visa when I reapply!!!

I'll be snookered if they dont

If you have already been granted a visa there is no reason why they won't re issue the visa , that's assuming your personal conditions haven't changed....
