I had planned a mini RTW trip (kind of) but i may not have the money, it was for 2-6/7 months, from London - New York - Maui - Sydney - Beijing - London.
I was planning on working in australia, but adding the cost of the flight and nights in a hostel to the net total just in case, the total came to 4600 GBP, thats for hostels, trips, flights, insurance, visa etc everything.
I will only have 3000 by the time i have to go and have already cut out auckland fromt the origional trip, so:
Do i sell lots of my electrical goods and other items worth a few bob
Take Beijing out of the trip saving about 600 GBP and scrounging the rest off friends and family -
OR shall i risk taking less and try to make up the money in australia - but what if i can't get a job, i cant get back to london!!!
A little advice would be much help, and i know it all sounds a little...
Hi George .... I know the feeling, Im doing a RTW for a year starting April its booked - flights paid for but one hiccup ... ive still not cleared debts, I still have £6000 to pay out before I can even start to save!!!!
Im doing 6 wks in SE Asia then on to Oz, hopefully I'll get work there cos that has to pay for the rest of my trip. As long as I have the cash for Asia im not worrying beyond that ... something will turn up or i'll come home early!
Good Luck with your adventure
Its pretty easy to find work in Aussie as a backpacker....any hostel notice board will be advertising positions and if you pick up the backpacker magazines like TNT there's listings for the major cities in there. As long as you're not fussy you should be able to pick up a job quite quickly....call centre or door-knocking kinda jobs, kitchen hand, fruit picking, vineyard work etc etc. But whether it'll be enough cash to fund the return trip is something you have to figure out personally!!
plus I saw your budget on another post and it seemed pretty liberal. You budget 30 pounds for Sydney... that should be plenty if you're a budget traveller! At the moment this is $65 AUD. $25 for sleep, $20 for food that leaves $20 for incidentals which should be plenty (unless you plan on boozing every night but if you bought booze from a bottle shop you'd still be fine). If you use Couchsurfing or hospitality club and try to get free accommodation you'll be even better off. Either way you should be able to pick up work in Sydney quite easily, outside the capital cities its a different story tho.
When are you leaving? If you come to Newcastle, NSW before April 09 send me a message and u might be able to stay on our couch
Im planning on going to asia in 2010 and then maybe australia to work for a bit i think will have about £3000 but will have to budget and stay in the cheapest accomodation.
Couch surfing has anyone ever had any bad exspirences with that??
Id say take some credit cards with you. You might not even use them and can cut them up when you get home but if there is a emergency and you havent got enough money they can be used to get you home.
