I am currently looking into working in Europe my fiance is from Bulgaria and if our Visa situation for him to come back here doesn't work we were thinking of me moving there to work and live for a while until we figure out what to do...the thing is I have no clue what i should be looking into at all...I've heard its hard for Americans to find work over there...and my only skills thus far is waitressing and I'm not a student in school anymore so I dont know what i should be applying for...we both have friends living in England, but where I'm American things are just different, If you have any info it would be greatly appreciated I am desperate to find some answers thanks so much!!!
Is there a specific country in Europe you're considering? You mention your fiance is from Bulgaria, and you also mention England.
well he is from Bulgaria, but the pay there is low, and the hopes of finding a job, even for him is nearly impossible so we were looking into moving to England cause we have friends that live there...
I suspect this might have to be a 2-step process, as Bulgarians & Romanians have special conditions currently attached to working in the UK. Although they're free to enter the UK as they're EU citizens, working is a different matter. Check this page for more details including requirements of an Accession Worker Card.
As far as you go, are you intending on marrying your fiance at any point soon? Once you do you would be considered a (non-EEA) family member and apply using a BR6 form for residence. However your fiance would need to be already working in the UK before you apply.
The above is how I see the rules applying, and not migration advice!! You need to fully check the rules out yourself.
im American working in Europe (UK). And yes....it is very hard to do.
I lived in Bulgaria too so maybe i can help.
I got a degree here and then a work permit and a job. Thats one (expensive) way of doing it.
Also find a job you can do anywhere. Im a web designer, i moved to Bulgaria and worked for US and UK companies there remotely. So try and internet job if you have any skills in that area. Most of the Americans I met in Bulgaria were working for the peace corp. Maybe thats an option? They were teaching English. Look into that as a possibility. But your right, avg salary in Bulgaria is 200 Euros pm.
There is a new point system in the UK, the Tier One Visa may be a good one to try for. look up the UK immigration website for more info on it.
