Hi there i'm from the uk and me and two of my mates are hopeing to travel the east coast for about 45days next summer (june/july) i've read many posts on here and had some great advise. was hopeing to fly into new york and finish up in miami, alot of people have mentioned hostels and motels but i was thinking about rentingan rv and staying on camp sites? is this something you can do? if not i was hopeing to buy a cheap car and sell scrap at the end probibly wont be that easy to do but must be cheaper than renting (we are all just under 25 so i belive you have to pay hi surcharge?) The other question i had was how long does it take to get by car from new york to miami? is it sensibly posible in 45 days with seeing sites on the way?
Any help regarding my questions or other aspects of the trip is much appricated
I'm not too experienced with campervan rentals, but if it's anything like renting a car, there will be a surcharge if you're under 25.
It is feasible to camp out most nights, especially if you follow the Appalachian mountains. This will take you away from the coast, though, and I'm not sure what you're interested in seeing?. Scenery, cities, American history...?
45 days is definitely feasible. It's about 23 hours from NYC to Miami, according to Google Maps, but that takes you through Richmond, VA and Charlotte, NC -- I would recommend staying to either the east or the west of these cities as these cities aren't really special; avoid Richmond, for sure -- and that'll add on more hours.
Just let me know what you're interested in and I can probably help out a little bit more.
Thanks for reply was mainly looking to see history and just as much as we can in different states. renting anything is looking like an expensive option as 2 of us are under 25 so looking to buy a van/suv in new york hopefully, just need to know how it works buying a car over there, as we will have no address to register it to also over here we have tax and m.o.t on cars i pressume over there you have something similar? i've looked at a few usd cars but no adverts seem to say weather a car has this? any help much appreciated
