So, there I am at Sears, in a line of folks....I was, by count, the sixth in line and nobody was behind me.

I noticed that, on the other side of the counter another line was forming...

After 11 minutes, I timed it, I now was second in line...Still nobody behind me...And, as the woman behind the counter served the lady in front of me she, the saleslady, put a sign on the counter..."THIS REGISTER CLOSED"....So, I said...

"You're closing the register?"

"Yes. I'm going to lunch."

"But I'm the last one in line."

"I'll get someone else to serve you."

"No you won't. I've been waiting, patiently, and you are NOT going to call someone else. See, that means I'll have to wait for that person to arrive. You are going to take my item, collect the money. Then, you can go wherever you want...As can I."

"But.."

"No buts. I'm tired of poor service, being ignored, and, worst of all, trying to FIND anyone when I need to get information. You WILL stay at that cash register, ring in my purchase and take my money."

The saleslady looked at me, her mouth slightly agape, took my item and rang it in. I handed her the $34.69, she put the item into a bag and handed it and the receipt to me.

I couldn't help myself....

"I want to return this item."

"WHAT?"

"I want to return this item."

The saleslady stared at me. I think she was getting upset....

"You want to RETURN this?"

"Yes, I do. I don't think I need it. Actually, I KNOW I don't need it. I would like my money back."

Needless to say the saleslady wasn't too happy as she ripped open the bag, removed the article, opened the register, return to me my money, slammed the register closed and asked me, rather sarcastically, I thought, if there was anything else she could do for me...

"No, thank you. Oh, and have a nice day...."

As I walked away the other folks in the other line actually applauded....I was going to take a curtain call but I decided not to....

Sounds like you cut off your nose to spite your face. That's if this is true and not a copy & paste job from an email.

See, James, I don't like your reference that I cut and paste from an email. I write my own stories..This one is, in fact true.

In actuality, I've had some of my stories picked up by others and "cut and Pasted" by them as their writings..Well, so be it.

Maybe it's beyond your abilities, James, but some of us can actually put some sentences to-gether to make a story.

So, James, cut and paste this......Go jump. I'm outta here.......Again.

chayisun - I'm sorry. It just had that "email story" ring to it.

Mind you, I worked at a department store in my university days and if someone said to me, when I was going to get someone to serve a customer,

"No you won't....you are NOT going to call someone else"

and that

"You are going to take my item, collect the money. Then, you can go wherever you want"

I would have told them to get well and truly stuffed.

Do you always get your kicks out of ordering around shop assistants?

She actually sounds like a nice, patient saleslady. Pity she has to put up with petulant smart-arse customers.
