First Time Travels

I have traveled the majority of the 50 states and parts of Mexico and Canada. Never having left North America, I have decided to take a long awaited trip to Europe. Prior to taking this trip I will be fininshing my under graduate degree, so time and money are large issues. Before I jump the gun and start saving for daily costs overseas, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much it is going to cost to get the ball rolling?

Well flights from East coast US to Heathrow would be something in the region of £300 return but vary greatly depending on time of year etc etc.

As for other costs - well Europe's a massive place, so where are you going and how long for?

Yeah about between £300 - £400 for a return to London from NY. Then it depends on how you live, hostels are generally about £12-20 per night. Then internal flights/travel to other countries in Europe, your looking at easyjet, ryanair, BA, for the British airlines, you might get a return from London to Spain for £60-100 for example. Really you wouild need about $1000 per month i think.

I backpacked europe for six weeks last year and it cost me about 1500 for all my daily expenses, not including airfare. I got a ticket from detroit to london for about $650. I was travelling on a budget, I stayed in hostels, packed lunches, and cooked dinner in the hostel where ever it was possible. If you are on a tight budget I would advice spending more time in the eastern europe, since it is a bit cheaper than western europe. Although, it is not dirt cheap by any means as some believe.
