Like I said, avoid Hotel Astoria in Venice. The hotel has refused to credit us with the deposit we paid through hostelworld.com and it charges different rates for Friday and Saturday nights even though this is not advertised. In our case, the room rate went from EUR110 to EUR190!!!
Let me know if you would like copies of the correspondence.
Also, the hotel does not have a lift and the stairways are very steep and long! The breakfasts are basic (cereal and bread/pastries); there is no car parking; no laundry; no restaurant; no bar and no common room (all of which it advertises as being available).
In our room, the toilet, shower and handbasin were all in one tiled room separated by curtains! What you might call a "wet bathroom" and that is what it became when you used the shower.
Have you contacted Hostelworld about this? If you had a booking confirmation from them for a specific price, then the hotel has no legal ground to up that rate once you get there. And if they are falsely advertising features, then I'm sure the people at Hostelworld would be interested in getting that fixed. We have the same system as Hostelworld on our site and I don't like to see people being deceived by hotels. If you want to forward me some of this information, I'd be happy to pass it on to Hostelworld, although usually I can only speak on behalf of people who have actually booked through us.
Yes, I have sent the info to hostelworld.com. I have yet to receive their response. I will let you know what happens.
You are unlucky !
For sure some people use venice as a business!
You must tell something to the site where you book to cancel it from their list! and depends on what you get write in your reservation if the price is different you can ask the difference to them
