Like everyone says do what you know is right nobody can tell you what you should do.
I wanted to go travelling as soon as i finished high school but decided to go straight ot university i lasted about 2 months before i decided i needed a break from study. my intentions be honest i didnt know. i figured i could work and save money to go travelling but being unqualified i ended up doing manual labour jobs and not earning much money so after 1.5 years i was back in University and ready to study. University was the greatest thing i have ever done i enjoyed the social aspect and the books side of things (I did a bach of Exercise science and then a bach of Education) the years i spent at university i grew up so much whilst at the same time partied and learnt so much. The last year was extremely hard though because the travel bug was biting hard many of my friends were doing it at that stage but i was detemined to finish uni.
I finally did finish uni July 2007 but because i was living/partying above my means the travel had to wait until i had paid off the credit card and saved some cash. So i entered a year and a half of work life to a certain extent it felt like my life was on hold just waiting to finally go travelling but by the end of this time i loved my job so much that again i had doubts on whether i should leave. Anyway August 08 i finally did it 2.5 months backpacking europe and now i'm living in London saving for a 3 month trip over next summer.
Im now old enough to enjoy the travel and im glad i did it this way i also have a job that is very easy to get work because im qualified and i can save for the next trip a lot quicker.
I suppose if you have dreams and your determined you will chase them no matter what. for me the first time i dropped out of uni everyone said i was stupid that i would never go back i did, when i left my job back home everyone said i was stupid because i had landed the perfect job and was going places but now here i am doing what i want.
what im saying is you and only you know which is the best order to do things, happy travelling/studying whichever one you choose you won't regret it if you are true to yourself

To adam and sander :
I'm from Paris as you can see on my Profile, and here is my story :
in my salad days I had the incredible possibility ( in the early 70's) to travel often
to the USA because my mum was living there back then.
It gave me a taste for traveling and I did it from time to time during college vacations like any youngster who
journey around backpacking.
It was definitely a plus in my life, although I ran sometimes through hard times (robbed, missed flight, sleeped outside on the rough, etc) but that's part of the deal, it's a good education , I think.
Thus I discovered some nice corners of the world that I wouldn't have known if I had "traveled"solely as an adult on AI for one-week packages or on business trips or on cruises where one doesn't get to see countries, only high seas! as most people do ....
However I don't have the character of a "road tripper", I like to live comfortably (not luxury -comfort : two very different things!) so giving up my studies or my job for a sabbatical year was never an option, although I craved for it at times...
But I know what it is to be broke, even hungry in a foreign country and I think it is one of the worst thing that can happen to somebody
So I kept track of some of the places I went to when I was a young man and discovered other places on Internet.
And now that retirement draws closer, now lurks the possibility of retiring in a few short years in one of these places with the dough I've saved for so many years, coming home at last!:):)
