Emma123 has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

I have flights into Phuket over CNY, but have no intention of staying in Phuket proper. Am trying to decide whether to go over to Phi Phi or to Krabi. I'm looking for just basic beach hut style accommodation and a stunning beach!

Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on Krabi vs. Phi Phi? All we want to do is relax on the beach, read books, eat well and find somewhere great to stay. Thanks!

Since you'll be in Phuket already - might try Khao Lok as they have bungalow style on the beach. Not sure you'll find it on internet.

Krabi? Not have that I know of.

Phi Phi - sort of - but, the tsunami might have eliminated them.

Ko Tao near Ko Samui is incredibly beautiful, laid back. Antithesis of Phi Phi.

Good luck!

@vernthai: thanks for your advice. How do you get from Phuket to Koh Tao? Is it easy?

About Phi Phi, I don't know about it after Tsunami. But I think everything should be reconstructed and done already. Since, bungalows in Similan and Surin islands are built and finished.

For Krabi, I have never been there. But American exchange students who joined my university went there last year. They stayed at Railay beach. As I know they stayed in Bungalow on the beach without A/C. The price was around 300-500 baht/night. I don't know about detail much. I'm sure you can find about the detail, not so hard.

In my opinion, Krabi sounds more easier to travel and have many things to do more than staying in PhiPhi island.

By the way, Wish you have a great trip ;)

Oh! Koh Tao is in Suratthani province, right?

There are buses from Phuket to that province. But I don't in detail (again).

Anyway, I think Suratthani has nothing, except Koh Tao as I know.

Both are lovely but I'd go for Krabi as Phi Phi was more expensive and didn't really have any more to offer than Krabi. I was there in April 2006 and it was still a mess from the tsunami but I'd assume it will be pretty much back to normal now.

Phuket is nice in parts, if you stay away from the main tourist areas. we stayed in hat karon and it was lovely.

hey Emma. I went last summer on these places and i have to say that you very lucky to go there. Phi Phi is really fantastic ,just like a paradise and absolutely reconstructed after tsunami. If you want to be really peacfull i recommend you to go to the back side of island where is a hotel i dont remember the name (sorry) with private beach but not expensive at all. There is a bar and a restaurant too. if you dont want such a quiet i recomend to stay at hillside hotel. Absolutely perfect bungalows with private balconys and swimming pool just for 1050bahts per day!!! its a good price for phi phi. i will search details for you if you want and sent you pictures also.About Krabi i recommend you to stay at koh lanta and not at the city. Koh lanta is really beautifull but not so cheap. Dont do the mistake to stay at the city, I did it and it was disappointed. Also something else. if you are planning to go to the other side koh samui and koh phangan dont do it if you likeĀ  quiet and you want just a beautiful beach. You will regret it. Stay at this side except if you want to go to surrathani. Beautiful as well.

Emma..... Ko Phi Phi IS Krabi. I mean Ko Phi Phi is in Krabi province.

Ko Phi Phi is fantastic, and in contrary to what has been written, the prices there are not much different to the beaches on Krabi mainland. Best beaches to chill out on Krabi mainland are Railey and Ao Phra-nang (Princess Cave Beach). There is no budget accommodation on the latter, but it's within close walking distance of Railey Beach.

Take up the opportunity to stay on Phuket. In fact, many of the beaches there are quieter and as beautiful as in Krabi.

Bex complimented Karon Beach, but for a beach even nicer and more laid back see Nai Harn Beach.
