hey peeps....

just looking for alot of advice really....

kinda at the stage where im thinking what do i want to do with my life? im 21 and have a fairly okish job, im a trained chef but not in the cheffing industry...

basically, im wanting to travel, not extensively, but just get out of the UK and travel around.... not decided on where exactly im wanting to go yet, but would be doing it all on my own... other than my plane ticket and having enough money for the trip... what else do i really need to take into account? i kinda wanna find out what i want outta life... and hope leaving my life behind for a few month's (not sure how long for yet?) will provide me with the info i need and want to think yeah thats it... im young enough to do it now and dont wanna wait and end up not regretting anything....

any advice on Round the World trips would be extremly welcome... cheers....

Mike

If you're a trained chef you could look into taking jobs in resorts in say Europe (maybe not your first choice however when you're from the UK - you've probably seen some of Europe already??) or the USA. I know theres companies who place young people in resort jobs for a summer or winter season - CCUSA/BUNAC for eg. Then after your contract is up you have some time to travel and explore. Just an idea to get your research going anyway

thanks for the post...

i was thinking of skipping europe out, and going further a field....

ive never been to america, so want to visit places there and definately austrailia. and wherever takes my fancy... but if im gonna work and travel i dont really wanna be stuck in a kitchen for 12 hours ya know? would rather be behind a bar and meeting new people...

but definately something to think about. thanks :)

its extremely hard (maybe impossible??) to get work in the USA if its not through a sponsoring agency. Summer camp is another work option for there though, if you're keen to check out the States....you get a 5 month visa which includes 2-3 months work, so plenty of time to explore afterwards. Aussie is also a good choice. You'd have to sit your RSA certificate once there to be able to work behind a bar, but plenty of travellers do it, so it's a definite option :) You can get a 1yr WHV for Aussie which means you can really sink your teeth into the country and travel round taking different jobs in different towns and cities

If you are doing a RTW then you should add a few non typical but great backpacking places. Other than SE Asia and OZ and NZ. I would recommend Nepal highly, maybe on the way home. Once in the US its a quick flight to central america. Check out Panama over Costa Rica. Not taking anything away from CR, but panama is far less travelled and the people are incredible. It will also help out with your budget.. Just a few ideas. Some of the Off the Beaten track places are the way to go on your RTW.. Enjoy
