Bavaria, Germany? Need advice...

We are planning on spending the first five nights of our honeymoon in Bavaria, followed by five nights in Salzburg. We are having extreme difficulty picking a location to stay in Germany and would appreciate any help. It is our first trip to Europe, so we are a bit overwhelmed by the choices. For those of you who are knowledgable with the region, would you suggest staying in Munich, Regensberg, Nuremburg or Passau? We aren't concerned about partying and nightlife, we just want a nice location to enjoy. We would love to do some driving daytrips from wherever we choose and want a chance to explore the region a bit. My wife loves scenic locations, castles and medieval towns. I've heard that Munich would be the best choice, but I'm not yet set on this choice. Munich seems very large and overwhelming compared to the other places that we have looked at. Once again, any suggestions will be very welcomed! thanks!

When are you going? I dont know if this is going to be too late. Munich (München) is the biggest city of them all and very pretty too. I don't think it's too overwhelming unless you desperately want to see absolutely [i]all[i] of it. Nuremberg (Nürnberg) has a castle, old fortifications and a few pretty churches, and of course, the nazi past. I'd definitely suggest Münich for a honeymoon. Lots of small cafes and restaurants, both top quality and budget.

We will be leaving on October 18th and will be spending 10-11 nights. We are starting our trip with a couple of nights n Munich and we will also be staying in Munich for the last night. In betwen, we hope to see a lot of different cities/sights. We will probably stay a night in Regensburg as well as 3-4 nights in an apartment just outside of Rothenburg ob Tauber. As for the extra 3-nights, we are still trying to decide....

We are considering either Salzburg, Austria, Fussen, Garmisch Partenkirken or any other suggestions that anyone has. What do you feel would be the most rewarding option for us?
