Hi there,

I am currently planning a big overland backpacking trip and as part of my trip, i am thinking of travelling from Bangaladesh(most probably Dhaka) to Tripura to Mizoram and then head towards Mandalay (Burma) then south to Yangoon and head north east to Chiang Mai/Pai (Thailand). Can this be done? Has anyone been on this route before? and most important of all is that I am planning this as a solo trip. Is it safe to be travelling through these territories alone?

I need as much information as I can on where the transitional points are for taking busses/trains or boats as currently I am completely clueless on how to do this part of the trip. An additional information: I will be entering Bangladesh from India.

please advise.

Unless things have changed recently, this cannot be done. While there are a few very limited land borders for tourists (allowing day trips to sights just over the border), as a general rule, you cannot cross into Myanmar overland and continue into the country. Therefore, you're only real option for getting from India to Thailand is to go north into Nepal - Tibet - China - and south through Laos and/or Vietnam.
