Claiming tax back in Australia

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Claiming tax back in Australia

Does anyone have any experience in claiming tax back in Australia, having worked over here whilst backpacking? I understand most people employ a company to get their tax back quickly, but that it is also possible to do it yourself and therefore save some money. Does anybody know how I would go about this and how easy it is to do? I leave Australia on 28th April.

Also, does anyone know how to retrieve your super-annuation fund?

Thanks.

I was also wondering about the same question.

Do people tend to do it themselves or through a company and pay a small admin fee?

Any info would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Hi both, I was working in australia and claimed my tax back whilst i was out there last year, it can be done on line but a few people i know made mistakes and did not get the full amount back. I Paid a small fee through an agency and they sorted it all out to be honest it was a lot easier and i didnt have to worry. You can claim tax back after the financial end of year which is june or july i cant remeber which alternatively you can claim once you have left the country but i guess that would have to be online or u can arrange through an agency who will transfer it in to a home account for you. i did mine through travel express. Hope that helps.

Cheers danielle, I think i will also use TravellersExpress as there is an office quite close to me and they only charge $99.
